The puck drops on the NHL season Wednesday, below are the odds for each team to participate in the postseason. Some teams are locks to have a good season and reach the playoffs, while others nonetheless optimistic at the start of year, are longshots.

The Chicago Blackhawks lost in Game 7 of the Conference Finals to the Los Angeles Kings but are the favorites to win the Stanley Cup. The Hawks are also the most likely team to make the playoffs with -1100 odds. You would need to have greater than 91.7 percent confidence (which is 1100/(100+1100)) in Chicago playing in the postseason to place this wager.

The Bruins (-1000), Penguins (-850), Ducks (-800) and Blues (-800) round out the top five most likely teams to be skating in late April.

Buffalo, the worst team in our Power Rankings, has the longest odds at +400 to surprise in the Atlantic Division and make the playoffs in the East. If you agree with the bookmakers and think the Sabres won't reach the postseason, you can bet that too, Buffalo is -600 to extend its playoff drought to four straight seasons.
