    3 Up 3 Down (College Week 13)

John Ewing, Director of Research and Analytics, @johnewing
    By John Ewing
A review of the week that was with a look at three college football teams that stood out for good reasons and three whose weekends did not turn out as successfully as anticipated.

    Three Up

    Northern Illinois Huskies
    2013 Record: Straight-Up 11-0, Against-the-Spread 8-3

Heisman hopeful (28-1 per Bovada.lv) Jordan Lynch has marched the Huskies to a perfect 11-0 record. Northern Illinois jumped two spots in the most recent BCS Standings, including hurdling fellow unbeaten Fresno State, to No. 14.

As the top team from outside the BCS automatic-qualifying conferences, Northern Illinois could qualify for a BCS bowl if it finishes in the top 16 and is ranked ahead of the champion from the American Athletic Conference.

Next Up: Western Michigan - #MACtion

    Trends
Western Michigan is 1-6 straight up in its last 7 games on the road
The total has gone under in 4 of Northern Illinois’s last 5 games at home vs. Western Michigan

    The Iron Bowl
This is only the second time in Iron Bowl history that both teams have been ranked in the top 5 nationally. What’s on the line? Alabama is trying to make history by becoming the first team in the modern era to win three straight National Championships. For Auburn they have a shot at the SEC West Title and possibly the National Title.

Back in October the Las Vegas Hotel and Casino SuperBook had Alabama as a 13.5 point favorite over rival Auburn. Heading into this weekend the Tide are currently 10.5 point favorites.

    The SEC
Polls don’t lie. The Southeastern Conference is still the best in the nation. In the current iteration of the AP Poll, four SEC teams are in the top 10, five schools in the top 15. This is all happening with Georgia and Florida having down years.

With Alabama in the driver's seat for the National Title it looks like the rest of college football is helpless to prevent the SEC from winning its eighth straight BCS Title.

    Three Down

    Oregon Ducks
    2013 Record: Straight-Up 9-2, Against-the-Spread 6-4-1

The Rose Bowl is ‘not a big deal’ to the Oregon Ducks. After a disheartening 42-16 loss to Arizona, the Ducks will not have to worry about attending because they won’t get invited.

Oregon turned the ball over three times including two interceptions by Marcus Mariota, the first picks he has thrown in over a year. You know you are having a bad day when your first interception of the year happens like this.

    Next Up: Oregon State

    Trends
The total has gone over in 10 of Oregon State’s last 11 games vs. Oregon
Oregon is 1-4 against-the-spread in its last 5 games

    Baylor Bears
    2013 Record: Straight-Up 9-1, Against-the-Spread 8-2

The Bears had struggled on the road in the past, but this year would be different, right? Maybe if Baylor was healthy, but injuries to Lache Seastrunk (RB), Glasco Martin (RB), Tevin Reese (WR), Spencer Drango (OT), and Bryce Hager (LB) finally made the Bears look pedestrian. A Baylor offense that had averaged 61 points per game was held to 17 and the Bears have now lost 37 straight road games to ranked opponents.

Head Coach Art Briles said it best, "Without question, there are rodeos, and this is not their first one."

    Next Up: TCU

    Trends
The total has gone over in 7 of Baylor’s last 10 games
TCU is 4-1 straight-up in its last 5 games when playing Baylor

    Florida Gators
    2013 Record: Straight-Up 4-7, Against-the-Spread 4-7

Florida had never lost to a Football Championship Subdivision school before dropping last Saturday’s game against Georgia Southern 26-20. In the Gators previous seven games against FCS opponents Florida had won by an average of 45 points.

Fun Stat: Georgia Southern became the first team this season to beat an FBS program without completing a pass.

Kick in the Pills: The Gators paid the Eagles $550,000 to play this game.

    Next Up: Florida State

    Trends
The total has gone over in 6 of Florida State’s last 7 games on the road
Florida is 7-2 in its last 9 games when playing Florida State

    The Predictalator

The Predictalator is the most advanced sports forecasting software available today because it has the ability to account for all of the relevant statistical interactions of the players, coaches, officials, home field advantage and weather in each game.

Picks for every game, including our Play Value Key and Calculator recommendations for optimal bankroll management and access to the Play Analyzer can be purchased in the Shop or by game here.

05/10/2017 Highlight: With baseball season now into its second month, we can leverage our ResultsFinder tool to profile our season-to-date numbers. MLB sides and totals continue to remain extremely profitable despite a recent run of bad variance to start May. The Predictalator's record of 272-250 on sides and totals this season doesn't look all that impressive, but that's because the simulations have sided with underdogs more often than favorites. Through May 9, the Predictalator has generated $547 for an average $50 bettor. "Normal" or better sides, totals, and run lines (our strongest edges) are 14-10 (+$118) season-to-date.

The NBA Playoffs continue on in the Second Round and the Predictalator has been profitable on both sides and totals in this year's postseason. Despite being just 16-19 (45.7%) ATS in the NBA Postseason, the Predictalator has generated $46 of total profit, which is a testament to our play value recommendations. Totals have been the real moneymaker in this postseason though, as all playabale totals are 19-15 (55.9%) for a solid profit of $168.

The NHL Playoffs have featured some very tight lines posted by oddsmakers, which has led to lower volume for the Predictalator. That hasn't let to less profits though. The Predictalator has posted 10 NHL positions (ML, O/U, or PL) in May, going 8-2 (80%) on those positions for a profit of $87. It is rare to find a big edge in the NHL this late in the year, but the Predictalator continues to chip away on small edges to provide solid returns.
