    NFL ATS Records (07/24/14)

Against-the-Spread data – which teams have the best ATS record over the last three seasons? How bad have the Jaguars really been?

A team's against-the-spread (ATS) record refers to a team's performance versus the line set by bookmakers as opposed to their actual performance on the field. For example, the Jets were 10-6 against-the-spread in 2013 but only 8-8 on the field.

Over the last three years the Seahawks have had the best ATS record in football. San Francisco has the same number of against-the-spread wins but four additional losses (we are including the playoffs).

For the most part, the teams with the best win/loss records in the NFL over the last three years also have performed well against-the-spread. The opposite is true for the dregs of the league.

Speaking of Jacksonville, just how bad have the Jaguars been? Looking at our ATS Stats page emphasizes the abysmal state of the Jags organization.

    A Tale of Two Cities

Jacksonville was virtually ten point (+9.8 average spread) underdogs in every 2013 game, the worst mark in the league. Denver was nearly a ten point (-9.2 average spread) favorite in every game (remember this includes the playoffs as well).

At HOME the Jags were almost touchdown (+6.6 average spread) underdogs in every game, only seven teams in the NFL failed to be favored at home on average in 2013. On the ROAD the Broncos were near touchdown (-6.8 average spread) favorites.

Since Peyton Manning arrived in Denver, the Broncos have been favored in 32 games in two years, the most in the NFL (includes playoffs). Over that same time frame the Jaguars have been favored in exactly zero games.
