The United States Group G finale takes place Thursday, 12 pm ET against Germany.

For the Americans, a win or draw, after the heartbreaking draw against Portugal, and the team moves on to the tournament's 16-team knockout stage. A loss and advancement gets a little more complicated with 209 different scenarios.

On the cusp of progressing from the Group of Death, the USA's odds to win the World Cup have dropped from 100/1 before the tournament began to 66/1.

Of course advancing will be difficult facing the formidable Germany side, second in FIFA's world rankings, the highest rated team left in the tournament after Spain's early exit.

Bookmakers have the German's favored (-165) to win with long odds of the U.S. drawing (+220). Fear not, fivethirtyeight.com gives the Stars and Stripes a 76 percent chance of advancing to the next round despite a 15 percent chance of beating Germany.
